Welcome parents to the 2008-2009 school year. Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Wendy Lucas. I have been teaching in SISD for the past 7 years. I have taught levels 8th --12th grade Language Arts/English during my time in SISD. I am very excited about being back at Spring High School. I am a graduate of Spring High and feel as though Spring High is home. I have a BFA in theatre from Sam Houston State University, with a minor in English. I am also member of the Spring community and my own children attend Spring schools. As a parent, I recognize the importance of strong communication between the teacher and the parents. I encourage you to become involved with my classroom and classroom activities. At any time, please do not hesitate to email or call me if there is ever any concern you might have. Communication is the key to helping your child succeed. It is my opinion that when we work together your children will succeed.
The atmosphere of my classroom is determined by the students during the first couple of weeks of school. The students will be building a social contract that will outline how everyone (including myself) treats each other within my classroom. The social contract is a device that allows the students to take ownership of the classroom. We will be building our contracts during the first two weeks of school.

In the fall of 2006 I wrote a grant proposal to begin an initiative at Spring High School called Capturing Kids' Hearts! Our goal is to create an atmosphere of comfort and safety in the classroom that will encourage learning. Since 2006, we have trained 48 teachers in the Capturing Kids' Hearts methods. Your students are experiencing this program currently in my classes. Ask your kids about our Social Contract and how they feel about the program. Great things are happening at Spring High School!
