The first six weeks is such an important time for the classes I teach. It is during this time that we build the foundations of how we're going to treat each other. We assess each students basic skills to see where we need to begin. We began learing about word attack strategies by knowing Greek and Latin Roots and prefixes. The first six weeks lays a strong foundation in which your student's skills will be built upon.

In the fall of 2006, I wrote a grant proposal to begin an initiative at Spring High School called Capturing Kids' Hearts! Our goal is to create an atmosphere of comfort and safety in the classroom that will encourage learning. Since 2006, we have trained 48 teachers in the Capturing Kids' Hearts methods. Your students are experiencing this program currently in my classes. Ask your kids about our Social Contract and how they feel about the program. Great things are happening at Spring High School!
