Classification

To be classified as a Sophomore you will need 6 state credits, a Junior is 12 state credits, and a Senior is 17 state credits.

Look on page 19 in the Program of Studies for suggested courses for each year as well as the requirements for graduation if you entered high school before the 2007-2008 school year.

If you entered high school 2007-2008 school year or after, look on page 20 in the program of studies for your graduation requirements.

GPA

Westfield High School uses a weighted GPA scale of 5.5 plus. This means that a student that takes honors or AP classes will earn more grade points depending on their grade.

For example, a student that is in US History that makes a 92 earns 4.2 grade points, but if they were in US History Honors and earned a 92 they would earn 5.2 points. If a student was in US History AP and earned a 92 they would earn 5.4 points.

Ranking

Senior class ranking is determined after the Fall Semester. Ranking will not be available to students until after the Honors Ceremony which is normally held February.

An honor student is one whose rank places him in the top 15 percent of the senior class. The top 5 percent graduate Magna Cum Laude, the next 10 percent graduate Cum Laude. The Valedictorian has the highest rank and the Salutatorian has the second highest rank. These two students graduate Summa Cum Laude.
