ONE OF MY FAVORITE SCRIPTS |
 | |
I am very pleased to be able to revisit this show before I retire. I think what draws me to it as much as the story is the setting. Grace's Diner is like thousands of little places along the highways and biways of our country. I wanted to try to give the audience the memory of that experience as thoroughly as possible. To this end, we tried to do as much "cooking" as we could. I wanted the smell to literally hit them in the face as they entered the theatre. We brewed coffee and fried bacon and eggs through out the show. I think the local fast food estab lishments did very well after each performance!

THE MENU |
 | |
I recall laminated menus in such places. Often, they were printed by Victor Cornelius of Eastland, Texas. I wanted the menus at Grace's to be something similar.

Of course, the weather is an issue throughout the play, so coats were necessary.
