The 2008-2009 Teacher of the Year: Margaret Morris
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that all students, given the opportunity and the challenge, can become lifelong learners. I believe that every child can grow as a learner. We, as teachers, must find the motivator for each child and continually strive to challenge that child to “reach for the stars” in their learning. These goals can be met by listening to and knowing our students as individuals, discovering how to help them learn, and encouraging them. Not only can our students learn from us but may we always remember that we can also learn from them.

Why I Became a Teacher
I have worked with children in community groups and church groups (Cub Scouts, Neighborhood Clubs, Children’s Choirs of all ages, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, etc.) most of my life. When my own two sons graduated from college, I began to seek a new purpose for my life and decided to go into teaching in public schools. I wanted to give something back to the community where my sons had grown up and attended school. After earning a Bachelor’s Degree from Sam Houston University and receiving my Teaching Certificate, I began my job at Thompson Elementary in Spring ISD. It has been very gratifying during the past ten years to teach, work with, and learn from Third Graders and my coworkers here at TES. As my students progress to Fourth Grade, I feel great pride in them and their accomplishments. It is especially rewarding to have a former student come back with younger siblings, for a parent night or community occasion at TES, and tell me what’s happening in their life and thank me for being their former teacher. What an honor to be chosen as the Teacher of the Year for 2008-09 for Thompson Elementary. Thank you!
