Rookie Teacher of the Year 2008-2009:Inga Latson
I was born and raised in Houston, Texas and attended school in Alief ISD. I graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown in 2005, in which I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. It was upon graduating when I decided to follow my heart to become a teacher. I’d always loved being a “Parent Volunteer” at my son’s school, and I felt full-filled when I was around children. With this new revelation, I left the “Corporate World” and obtained my teacher certification in 2007. I am blessed to call Thompson Elementary my new home. My first year here at Thompson has been nothing less than a memorable, jovial, challenging, and rewarding experience. Thank you so much parents, students, teachers, and administrators for welcoming me with open arms. We are indeed “FAMILY” here at Thompson!

My Personal Philosophy of Education:

I believe that all students should be treated as an individual. I learned this valuable lesson during motherhood, in which I feel that the only way to relate to a student is by getting to know the student. My goal as an educator is to encourage and inspire students to reach beyond their highest goals and potentials in life. As a caring, motivated teacher, I pose to not only become a positive influence in student’s lives, but to offer them the vision and foresight to advance academically and emotionally. In addition, I plan to transform students into becoming “life-long learners” through constant development of critical-thinking skills and positive interaction amongst peers.

A personal quote that I like to refer to while teaching is:

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs (ch. XXII, v. 6)
