What is Dual Language?
Dual Language delivers literacy through content in two languages for al students.

Minimum K-5
Optimal K-12
With the 50-50 model, 50% of daily instruction is in Spanish and 50% is in English. The percentage allotted to each language may vary by grade level in other districts and programs.
Dual Language Program Goals
Spring Independent School District administrators, teachers, and staff are dedicated to ensuring that each student acquires the skills and knowledge to succeed in a global society by working towards the following goals:

Program Design at Thompson Elementary
Language Arts
1. PK–1st grade in Spanish only for ELLs
2. PK-1st grade in English only for non-ELLs
3. 2nd – 5th grade in Spanish and English (L2 is enrichment only)
Mathematics
* PK– 5th in English and Spanish (all students)
Science and Social Studies
* PK- 5th in English and Spanish (all students)

How Do I Enroll My Child
All parents wishing to enroll their children in the Dual Language Program must complete the enrollment process. If the selection process is closed and there are no available spots, students are placed on a waiting list. Filling open slots from the waiting list will only be permitted in kindergarten and first grade upon successful completion of select assessments. Enrollment process:
1. Attend a Parent Informational meeting and fill out an interest form.
2. Complete the screening process:
* Parent Interview with Program Facilitator
* Parent Survey
* Student Assessment
3. Receive Results of Screening Process:
* If child qualifies, sign the commitment letter
* If child qualifies, but selection process is closed, (s)he will be added to the waiting list
4. Attend Parent Orientation
What Else Should I Know
* A successful experience in pre-school may aid in a child’s ability to complete the screening process successfully
* Parent Involvement is a critical component and requirement of the Dual Language Program
* Participation in the K-5 Dual Language Program requires a six year commitment
