Reading |
As a class we will read a selection together. Students will participate in the Read-Aloud in the classroom on a regular basis.
This section of the notebook will also be for Reading Reactions which are based on the Independent Reading and are due by every Wednesday.

Writer's Notebook |
The Writer's Notebook is intended to be a place for students to practice writing in different styles using devices that they can explore as they write. Students are required to use their latest set of vocabulary words in each Writer's Notebook.
Vocabulary |
Students will find their vocabulary words directly from their Independent Reading. Vocabulary is due every 2 weeks. For each word found students will write the page number and paragraph number found. Students will pick 5 of these words to break down even further. For each of these 5 words students should write: the word, part of speech, definition, word in context and once these items are complete students will draw a picture of their interpretation of the word. The 'word in context' means the exact sentence as it appears in their Independent Reading book.

On the calendar this assignment is called the RL/AB. See the Forms page for a copy of the Reading Log, and for the Annotated Bibliography handout.
