The National Forensic League Speech and Debate Team is coached by Sammy Green, Randy Ellis and Gailan Woods. Together they coach debate, exptemp, oratory, dramatic and humorous interpretation, duets, and many more events. The Spring NFL has had NFL Nationals Finalists, TFA State Champions and Finalists, and UIL State Champions and Finalists. The hard work of the students is one of the keys to success in this program.

PERMISSION SLIPS/MEDICAL RELEASE FORMS. Students attending tournaments must turn in permission slips and medical release forms to travel. We do one medical release form at the beginning of the year that is good for the entire school year. The permission slips have to be completed for every tournament. They are sent home on Monday the week of the tournament and must be returned by Wednesday. Please help your child meet this deadline.
TOURNAMENT ENTRY FEES. We charge a flat fee of $10.00 for each tournament that the student attends. The average cost for each student is $40.00. The district pays the rest of the fee. We provide a fundraiser in the fall for students to raise money for their account to cover the $10.00 fee. Whatever profit they make, is put into an account for the student to use for tournament entry fees. If a student has to drop a tournament past the drop deadline established by the individual tournament, the student is then responsible for paying the TOTAL amount due. Please send the money with the permission slip.
DRESS CODE. We require our students to "dress for success" as they compete at tournaments. Gentlemen need a suit and tie or dress slacks, dress shirt, and tie, dress shoes and dark socks. They need to have a neat haircut (hair hanging in the face is not acceptable) and be clean shaven. Absolutely no piercings.
Ladies need a suit, dress or skirt and top. Professional is the key. Skirt lengths need to be at the knee or longer. Nothing that is too lowcut, tight or short is acceptable. Hose are a must. Dress shoes with a heel. A simple "pump" is the best. Sandals or big and clunky shoes are not appropriate. Conservative hair style and jewelry is a must.
We want the students to have a sophisticated, professional appearance.
