The 2009 Culture Shapers Art Contest
These students entered the 2009 Culture Shapers Art Contest. There were more than 1500 entries in the Houston area. All the Spring High entries are very strong and were well-received. Jennifer Esmond's mixed media piece, "The Waker," won 9th place and Jennifer was awarded $250!

Christian created a much larger than life-size self portrait.

Kayla Archie with "Joyful Laughter"
Kayla used value (light and dark) to create a 3-D effect in her self portrait with mannikin hands.
Mediium - graphite (pencil)
Katie Galligan with "Smokey Converse"
Katie challenged herself with a pose in exaggerated perspective. Look at those feet! Size 13, Katie?
The medium is oil pastels.
Catey Rhodes with "Tranquility"
Catey also challenged herself with a pose in exaggerated perspective. Again, look at those feet! Size 13 definitely.
The medium is oil pastels.
Rebecca Hopple with "Two Seasons"
Rebecca was inspired by the Art Nouveau artist Mucha in her exaggerated perspective drawing.
The medium is oil pastels.
Jennifer Esmond with "Knucklehead"
Jennifer created a much larger than life-size self portrait.
The medium is Prismastix.

Jennifer also entered a multi-media piece in the Culture Shapers Art Contest entitled "The Waker." It was chosen as one of the top 15 entries.
Alyssa Dunne with "Cough Syrup"
This piece is from Alyssa's AP concentration in expressive arms.
The mediums used are prismastix, acrylic paint, watercolor, and gouache.

Alyssa also entered in Culture Shapers a painting entitled "Relief" and a drawing entitled "Fire Eater."
Nia Palmer with "Mama Nia"
Nia created this self portrait with hat using white Prismacolor pencil on black paper.
Kandise Ponce with "Recreation"
Kandise emphasized value in this complex composition.
The medium is charcoal.
