Welcome to Health Science Technology I! This course was designed to develop health care specific knowledge and skills in effective communications, ethical and legal responsibilities, client care, safety, first aid, and CPR. This course prepares the student for the transition to clinical or work based experiences in health care.

Unit 1: Leadership Skills (2 weeks)
Unit 2: Communications (1 week)
Unit 3: Safety and Body Mechanics (2 weeks)
Unit 4: Asepsis (1 week)
Unit 5: Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology (19 weeks)
Unit 6: Skills Development (3 weeks)
Unit 7: Client’s Rights, Choices and Related Ethics (1 week)
Unit 8: Death and Dying (1 week)
Unit 9: Technology (1 week)
Unit 10: Employment Skills (3 weeks)

Your grade for each six weeks will be determined as follows:

40% daily grades (warm-ups, daily assignments, etc) and quizzes
60% major grades (tests, projects, etc.)

The semester final will be averaged as 15% of the semester grade. If you need additional help, please schedule time with me before or after school. Make up work due to absences will be accepted as stated in the student handbook. You are responsible for catching up all missed assignments. All assignments are due at the beginning of class. Any assignment that is turned in after the beginning of class will be subject to a 15 point deduction. Assignments will not be accepted if they are more than one day late. When major projects are assigned, you will be given a five day period in which you may turn in the project; therefore, major projects will NOT be accepted late, regardless of absences.

Supplies required for this class include: (Be sure to label your supplies!)
black or blue ink pen folder with pockets
pencil 1 pack of 12 colored pencils
1 box of colored markers 1 subject notebook with pockets
1 poster board

You are expected to behave as future professional healthcare workers. This includes arriving at class on time (main campus students will be given an additional 2 minutes), being prepared (with necessary class supplies), and showing respect to others. More than 2 tardies during the semester will result in student consequences including teacher detention and parent / guardian calls. Any disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

I anticipate a great semester and look forward to working with each of you.
