Found Poetry |
DUE NO LATER THAN MONDAY, MARCH 8.
Found Poetry is the process of rewriting an article or news story into a poem. It involves taking key words from the original text and rearranging them into a poetic form. The poem should still maintain the main idea from the original text.
Step 1: Read an article and circle or underline the key words and phrases.
Step 2: Figure out what the article is mostly about.
Step 3: Arrange the key words/phrases into a poem.
Step 4: Make sure your poem maintains the same main idea as the original article. |

Types of Rhyme (NOTES) |
end rhyme: the words at the end of the line rhyme
EX:
The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

internal rhyme: the words within the same line rhyme
EX.
Once upon a midnight dreary while I pondered weak and weary.

slant rhyme: words that do not rhyme perfectly, but have similar ending sounds
EX.
Persecution's cruel mouth
Shows a twisted love of truth.

eye rhyme: words that look like they would rhyme, but are not pronounced the same

Directions:
1. Paste poem on the left - song on the right.
2. Write the theme at the top.
3. Underline the words/lines that show the theme in both the poem and the song.
4. Find/draw a symbol (picture that represents the theme).
5. Find one example of each type of rhyme in the poem and lyrics you used on your poster:
end, internal, eye, and slant rhyme
6. If you can’t find all four types of rhyme, write your own examples or find examples in other songs/poems and write these examples on the back of your poster.
