TO PARENTS OF BUSINESS EDUCATION CAREER PREPARATION STUDENTS
Welcome to the Business Education Career Preparation program. I am looking forward to a very rewarding school year. The Cooperative Education program is a triangle of learning activities consisting of a one-hour class, a minimum of 15 hours on-the-job training at an approved training station, and leadership training through the Business Professionals of America Club. Throughout the year we will have Club activities. During the second school semester, students will have the opportunity to go to Area, State, and National Business Professionals of America Conferences. I urge you to encourage your child to participate in club activities and contests/competition
State law requires each student to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. As teacher-coordinator, I will visit your son or daughter on the job many times during the school year. Your son’s or daughter’s training station supervisor will be asked to fill out an evaluation form regarding their performance on the job during each six-week’s grading period. No student is allowed to change training stations without the teacher’s approval.
The most immediate situation which needs your attention is that if your son or daughter has not become employed in an approved training station by the second week of school (September 4, 2009) his/her schedule will be changed to remove the student from the Cooperative Education program. I will work with each of these students to help them find proper employment. It is up to the student to present himself/herself in such a manner as to become employed.
As in most clubs, there is a dues requirement. Business Professionals of America state and national dues are approximately $25. We will have one fund-raising activity to raise money for other expenses such as registration fees for BPA competitions, and appreciation plaques for the supervisors of our training stations. The total dues for the year will be $25.
I am very happy to have your child in my class this school year. I will do my best to make this school year a positive and beneficial learning experience for your student. If you have any questions, please call me at (281)-891-7102 or email me at judyc@springisd.org

Rules of Career Education
RULES OF CAREER PREPARATION

As a student who combines part-time employment with academic courses, you understand that you must be 16 years old and that:

1. Enrollment in a career preparation education class is designed for one FULL academic year. Students may not enroll for one semester only.

2. Students must be employed at an approved training station within TWO (2) WEEKS after the first day of school, or they will be dropped from the class. Students are required to work at their training station until the last day of classes.

3. When students find their own training stations, they are subject to the same policies as other career preparation education students. All training stations must be approved by the teacher-coordinator.

4. Students must provide their own transportation to and from their training stations.

5. Students are not permitted to change training stations without the coordinator’s approval. A student will fail for the six weeks if this occurs.

6. Any student who resigns from his/her training station with the coordinator’s approval or is fired for unjustifiable reasons will be given two weeks, with help from the coordinator, to find another approved training station.

7. Dismissal from a training station for insubordination, refusal to work, poor work habits, or poor attitude, will result in a student possibly being dropped from the class and failing for the six weeks.

8. If a student is fired for dishonesty, theft, or immoral conduct, the student may be removed from the career preparation program.

9. The student leadership organization of each career preparation education program is an integral part of the program; therefore, all members of the class are expected to take an active part in all club activities, meetings, fund-raising projects, attend the employer banquet with the employer and pay all dues before the end of the first two weeks of school.

10. Students will not change career preparation classes once they are enrolled. (e.g. from Marketing Education Career Preparation to Family & Consumer Science Career Preparation)

All Career Preparation policies are covered thoroughly in the Career Preparation Education Handbook and/or the Spring I.S.D. Student-Parent Handbook.

ALL PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED WITHOUT REGARD TO
