BCIS is Fun!
In BCIS, you will learn the correct format for resumes, letters, reports, tables using MS Word. You will also use MS Excel to create spreadsheets. You will learn how to use Excel formulas in everyday business applications. In adddition you will learn MS Access. You will learn how to sort databases, and how to perform queries. Powerpoint presentations using transitions and animations are created during the school year. BCIS is a class that will prepare you for an entry-level position in the business world.

T-Shirt Design Project


In this project you are to use the programs Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and the Internet to complete the assignments. Follow directions as listed below.

1. You are to design a t-shirt. Select one of the following categories:
• Spring High School T-shirt
• College T-shirt
• Patriotic T-shirt
You must include the following:
• Color of t-shirt
• Front design and a back design
• Wording and graphics on t-shirt must be appropriate for school
You may create your t-shirt design in PowerPoint or Word (using the drawing toolbar) or go to www.uberprints.com/studio/. If you use the web site, copy the T-shirt to your account by clicking on the print button. Then right-click your mouse and click on “save as.” Then save the design on your sections account.
• Print a copy of t-shirt—include color of shirt, color of font, color or graphics, and your name.

2. Marketing Research
• Go to www.marketing.swep.com
• Click on Student Activities (left side)
• Click on Chapter 14—Lesson 2 and scroll down
• Read paragraph and follow directions
• After you answer the questions, type your name and Print
• Do the same steps for Chapter 14—Lesson 3

3. You are to read the article in the Wall Street Journal, September, 2005, entitled: May I Help You? The article can be found at www.wsjclassroomedition.com/archive/05sep/mktg_abercrombie.htm
In Word, key a ½ page summary of the article. Print

4. Research at least 5 vendors (companies) that sell T-shirts to find their cost for shirts, cost for printing, cost of different sizes. (Google: T-shirt printing). Create a database with the following field names: CompanyName, Address, City, State, Zip, Phone, ShirtPrice, PrintingCost. Complete the database with your information. Sort in A-Z order by Company name. Indicate which vendor you will choose to purchase your shirts from. Print.

5. You are to create a one-page flyer or advertisement that you will use to promote your t-shirt. Create your business name, a logo, an address and phone number. Be creative. Be sure to include your price and color of your t-shirt. Print. (You will determine your price to allow a profit from the cost of the T-shirt from your chosen vendor.)

6. Design a Purchase Order in Word for your company to use to order from your chosen vendor. Include your business name, logo and address. (See example handout.) Print.

7. You are to create a spreadsheet in Excel. Title is the name of your Business, Your Name. Include Clip Art.
• Column Headings: Name, Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large, Total Shirts, Price, Total Amount Owed
• Complete spreadsheet with the following information:
Mr. Borg wants one Small, one Medium, and one Extra large.
Mrs. Wright wants 1 Medium and 2 Extra large.
Dr. Tommaney wants one Extra large and one Large.
Mrs. Brzymialkiewicz wants 2 Extra large.
Mrs. Denney wants one Small, one Medium, and one Large.
Mrs. Cole wants one Medium and one Large.
Mr. Twomey wants 1 Extra large.
Mr. Jones wants one Medium, one Large, and one Extra large.
Mrs. Cooper wants 1 Small.
Mr. Villarreal wants 1 Extra large.
Mr. Colston wants 2 Large and 1 Extra large.
Mrs. Parks wants 1 Medium and 2 Large.
Mr. Harrison wants one Large and 2 Extra large.
• Use Sum for Total Shirts column
• Use =Total Shirts * Price for Total Amount Owed column
• Add a Total row at bottom
• Print normal view and formula view
• Filter for “3” shirts ordered in the Total Shirts column. Print your filter and staple to spreadsheet.

8. You are to create a spreadsheet in Excel using information from the spreadsheet you did in #7. Create a title. Create column headings. Use your four t-shirt sizes for Column A and your total shirts for each size for Column B. Then create a column chart. Print
• Label your title, x axis and y axis
• No legend

9. Create PowerPoint—Print handout
• Slide 1—Logo and business name
• Slide 2—Description and/or picture of t-shirt
• Slide 3—Table showing your sizes and total sales for each size
