The first 3 weeks of school we will be reviewing Kindergarten skills: letters of the alphabet, sequencing letters, capitals, lowercase, vowels, consonants, etc...
Afterwards we will be focusing on the following spelling patterns:
Closed Syllable Words - Short Vowels: Consonant–vowel–consonant (CVC) spelling pattern. Whenever 1 vowel is followed by one or more consonants in a word, the consonant "closes" in the vowel and the vowel usually says its short sound.
Week 4.......Short a words (cat, hat)
Week 5.......Short e words (bet, get)
Week 6.......Short i words (pig, wiggle)
Week 7.......Short o words (hot, mop)
Week 8.......Short u words (tub, mud)
Week 9.......Review all short vowel sounds
While reading, please point out and discuss with your child words that may follow these spelling patterns. |
