Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jamie Merillat. This is my 8th year teaching First Grade here at Smith Elementary. Aside from my classroom responsibilities, I am also the First Grade Language Arts Representative and the First Grade webmaster. I have lived in Spring my entire life. I started Kindergarten at Winship Elementary until Smith opened its doors in 1986; then I moved on to Twin Creeks Middle School and Spring High School. My experience during my twelve years in Spring ISD led me to want to become an inspiring teacher. Upon graduation I headed off to Sam Houston State University where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a minor in English. I had the privilege of returning to Smith in the fall of 2002 to do my student teaching. I was hired during my student teaching assignment and I’ve been here ever since!
My husband Jason and I have two beautiful children: a 10-year-old son named Joshua and a 4- year-old daughter named Jordan.
Being a former “Scottie” myself, and since my son and my 2 nieces also attend Smith, I have quite a strong bond and commitment to our school and to our community. My goal as a teacher is to inspire and become a positive influence to all students.
