Bammel Wish List

The staff at BMS is always striving to provide opportunities and experiences for our students that are of the highest quality. However, many of the “extras” that we provide are not covered in the school’s budget, and teachers and/or families must bear the burden of these extra costs.

This list is a representative sampling of those costs, and will be updated regularly, as wishes are met and others are added. Contact Patsy McLaughlin at 832-764-7934 for more information.

Wishes may be met by:

-- donating the products or services listed,
-- partnering with a teacher to achieve teaching / enrichment objectives,
-- making a monetary donation designated for a specific wish; or
-- making a monetary donation without a designation (the BMS staff will use its discretion to allocate funds to the most urgent needs)

More information about making yearly monetary contributions is available on our Business Partners page. Thank you in advance for partnering with us to make these wishes come true!

To make a donation or to volunteer for any of the activities listed here, please contact Patsy McLaughlin at 832-764-7934 or email Patsy McLaughlin.
Volunteers

NOTE: Volunteers must submit to a Criminal Background Check by the SISD Police Department in order to participate in most of the activities listed here.

To volunteer for any of the following activities, please complete the Volunteer Contact Information form online, or contact Patsy McLaughlin or Ronette Kerr at 832-764-7933.

Classroom aide: Help students complete experiments in science, hands-on activities in math, or computer projects in other subject areas. Volunteers are needed daily in many areas. We ask that you come in for a minimum of 45 minutes. Feel free to stay longer -- all day, if you'd like!

Clerical Help: Periodically, different departments need help cutting out laminated activities (manipulatives, games, etc.), and/or collating class sets of curriculum materials.

Lunch Buddies: Nostalgic for public school cafeteria food? Want to help a child? Let us match you with one of our students as a role model. Talk about your job, your education, their plans and goals. Encourage them to persevere and advise them. Be a positive influence in a child's life. Volunteer for one lunch period (30 min.), or as many as all four (2 hours), one day a week.

Special Programs volunteers: Shining Stars Celebrations (once per six weeks), Mix-it-Up @ Lunch (once a year), TAKS hall monitors (one day in February; one week in April) all are examples of special events volunteer opportunities.

Thank you for your interest. Please check here for updates of our wish list and volunteer needs.
2006-2007 Wish List

Sponsors needed for the following activities:

Ignite!Learning and The Barbara Bush Foundation last year donated a Curriculum on Wheels (COW) to help address additional needs generated by the Katrina evacuee students who came to BMS. The cost of the COW is $3,000+ (this is what was donated). The annual renewal cost is $1000.00. The COW has proven to be of immense value to the Science Department. It consists of a laptop computer and an LCD projector. The laptop comes loaded with Ignite!Learning’s innovative and comprehensive curriculum, which is tied to the Texas Middle School Science TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills). Its innovative multimedia format motivates students to remain engaged, focused and on-task as the whole-group lessons are presented. The short, powerful lessons lend themselves both to initial instruction and to test review. The Science Dept. needs a community sponsor who will pay for the annual renewal (includes updating and tech support).

Lego's Robotics Teams: There is a $500 entry fee per team into this National competition that promotes engineering / technology skills. BMS has two teams, with enough interest to support one or two more teams. In addition to entry fees, there are costs for transportation and supplies. The team placed 10th in a recent regional competition of over 50 teams. The group needs a long-term sponsor for (all or part of)their fees and expenses.

Praise Dancers: This gospel-based performing group needs sponsors to defray the cost of transportation, costumes and entry fees. The Praise Dancers are featured at most school-sponsored events.

Bammel Patriettes: This dance team is featured at athletic events, Open House, Patriot Pride Night. Patriettes are trained for local competitions. This training prepares them to participate in high school and college performance dance teams. Contributions will help fund costumes, lesson expenses, entry fees and transportation.

Intramural Soccer: Begun with a grant from the Spring ISD Education Foundation, soccer has rapidly developed into a major after school activity. Over 150 students tried out for the BMS team which plays games with teams from other SISD campuses as well as out of district teams. Contributions will support the purchase of uniforms, equipment, transportation and other expenses.

Math Dept needs 750 pocket folders (with brads). If you can donate pocket folders, please contact Amanda Caillier, Math Department Chairperson by calling the BMS switchboard at 832-764-7900.

Other needs:

Printer paper: Budgetary restraints have resulted in a paper shortage throughout the campus. Please donate reams of printer paper, or recyclable printer cartridges, the money from which will be used to purchase paper.

College trips: Although most expenses for these trips are paid for by our fall fundraiser, some expenses remain. Donations may be targeted to support this activity.

Games Club: Mr. Anthony is sponsoring a board game club & is accepting donations of board games for this after-school activity.

Science Club: Field trips and guest speakers cost about $350 more than student fees cover. Sponsoring this popular club will promote science education at BMS. Contact Mrs. Bucklew.
