The Westfield Mustangs finished 8th in the 2007 Region 7 meet at Fort Bend Stephen F. Austin High School. Westfield's Rex Ounekeo took 3rd place in the Scholastic Mathematics contest, Jared Smith took 2nd place in the Scholastic Speech contest, and Christian Talac took 2nd place in the Varsity Music category. This was Westfield's first two silver medals and multi-medal contest. Mike Fine was the top Honors member. Jared Smith was the top Scholastic member and Tara Conneally was the top Varsity member. The Mustangs scored 32,934 total points.

The Academic Decathlon is a national contest between high schools composed of a team of nine students. The team must be broken down into 3 categories
Honors: 3 students whose GPA are between 3.75-4.00 on a 4.0 scale
Scholastic: 3 students whose GPA are between 3.00-3.74
Varsity: 3 students whose GPA are between 0.00-2.99

Each contestant participates in ten events(hence the name decathlon). The events are:
1. Essay
2. Interview
3. Speech (prepared and impromptu)
4. Mathematics
5. Economics
6. Social Science
7. Art
8. Music
9. Language and Literature
10. Super Quiz (A relay type team event where all students score counts...this years topic is Climatology)

A teams score is taken from the top 2 highest scoring student in each level.
