Course Description
Intro to Dance is a full year course that students will study basic movements as well as learning the physiology of dance and the body. Students will be exposed to a variety of dance forms such as ballet, jazz, modern, and tap, as well as a study of cultural dances from around the world. The course will provide the students with the opportunity to acquire basic overall knowledge of dance, develop dance skills, and expand their creative potential and appreciation of different dance styles. The course will include basic dance terminology and history with opportunities for student choreography. Students in the dance strand will have an opportunity to perform in various programs throughout the year. Students will also have the opportunity to work with local professional dancers as well as visiting dance studios and attending performances.
Course Outline
1st Six Weeks: Nutrition and Physical Fitness Unit
• Pilates, Aerobics, Cardio

2nd Six Weeks: Ballet Unit
• Dance Attire – leotard, dance capris, and ballet shoes must be purchased by the 1st day of the 2nd six weeks!!

3rd Six Weeks: Jazz and Hip Hop Unit

4th Six Weeks: Tap Unit
• Tap shoes need to be purchased before the 2nd semester

5th Six Weeks: Modern Unit

6th Six Weeks: Choreography Unit
